Favela EP is a release from the Southern California beatsmith, QSTN. By definition a favela is a slum occupied by squatters, whom construct shanties from salvaged or stolen materials. In this obscurity you’ll find beauty; one particular rose that grew from concrete and sentiments echoed by Tupac Shakur. The Favela EP resonates with me; the project dwells in Brazil and in it you will find a mixture of samba beats, soulful sounds and pure hip hop bliss. The album is undoubtedly inspired by brazilian music, comprised of distinct flutes and samba rhythm. Despite its brevity, QSTN is able to showcase his artistry on the Favela EP and to a broader point, expand and widen the spectrum when we think of hip hop production. Definitely make sure to support this project and check out the catalogue of QSTN.
