TAPE4 by Frisco’s own RITCHRD is a funky beat tape worthy for Don Cornelius to introduce at the Soul Train line. I must say that one of the amazing accomplishments on TAPE4 is RITCHRD's ability to create his own lane by bridging the gap between French House and Hip Hop beatmaking. Channelling the influence of sounds played at Paris discos, RITCHRD offers a sonic rush that transcends four decades of dance music in this installment of his TAPE series.
Listening to the first four (magic number of the week-- brought to you by the letter G) tracks on this tape sounds like chopped and screwed French house music you can vibe to. “YEA” for example, is a banger that first starts off with somebody saying the exact word, insinuating someone is about to rap, but instead tricks you into doing the two-step to George Benson-like guitar riffs. Furthermore, showing off his skills in the French House arena, he goes full throttle on the last 2 tracks with “GAS” and “LIGHT”. Those two records pack the essentials of this genre with filtered bass, kicks, hi hats, raw R&B/Disco samples, and all the phaser effects needed to make the climax of any party pop off.
So, if you are trying to get your Oran "Juice" Jones or Mary Jane Girls gig on, I propose to you to support this artist by downloading Tape4. Big Ups to RITCHRD for bringing this sound to the Bay Area.
