Rising Northern California producer Julia Lewis releases his latest effort, The Space Between Us. This project comes off the momentum that the young producer has built since releasing his Asymmetry EP in 2013, as well as an EP with his group Saint Tiimbre, a collective that includes Bay Area legend Amp Live and singer Natasha Adorlee.
Some of the peaks of the record include the lead single, "You Were My First Love", which features a somber soothing beat that allows the guest vocals of Natasha Adorlee to sweep across the track. The repeating claps and the sci-fi atmosphere on "Seance (Parts 1 & 2)" makes for an alluring opening to the track. Halfway through "Seance (Parts 1 & 2)" it briefly switches up to a record with heavy 80s vibes which then closes with the same repeating claps and sci-fi atmosphere as before.
The crown jewel of the project is found on the opening track "Geneva". The beat opens up with a calming harp melody and it is slowly builds till it reaches the apex with hypnotic synths and thumping bass that hits midway through the track. This beat is easily one of my favorite beats of the year.
On The Space Between Us, Julia Lewis offers a ton of varying textures and dynamic sounds to keep the listener engaged throughout the duration of the project. Within the six tracks of the EP Julia Lewis successfully executes his ability to demonstrate the colors that the producer has in his musical palette.
